Paraffin wax is known as petroleum wax. It is a byproduct of petroleum refining. Paraffin wax can be divided into liquid paraffin, solid paraffin, microcrystalline wax, vaseline and so on. Wax is not something new. The history of human wax is very long. Before the large-scale emergence of petroleum wax, there were two main sources of animal wax and animal wax. In China, beeswax is the wax produced by the honeybee family and processed into wax. Wax was not widely used until large scale oil was extracted and petroleum wax was extracted.
Paraffin wax has a wide range of uses, such as automotive protection and anti-corrosion, explosive production, plate production, printing ink, daily chemical products and fruit and vegetable preservation. Paraffin wax also has many uses in the food industry. In our food additive standard GB2760, paraffin can be used as a food processing agent in potato chips, oil, candy and grain processing, mainly used as defoaming agent or demoulding agent. Paraffin can also be used as a basic agent in gum based candy. In addition, paraffin can also be used as a membrane agent for the surface of fresh eggs. It has the effect of insect proof and ash prevention. In food packaging, paraffin wax can be used for impregnating wax for containers and packaging materials that are in contact with food. However, paraffin wax is not allowed to be used directly in food.
